A woman suffered life-threatening injuries in an accident on the A40 on Thursday. The motorway was temporarily closed in the direction of Venlo.

The A40 motorway was completely closed for several hours near Neukirchen-Vluyn in the direction of Venlo on Thursday afternoon. A 77-year-old woman crashed her car and hit a truck. According to police, the accident happened while changing lanes. The woman’s life is in danger, police said.

The woman was trapped in the car, a police spokesman said. Firefighters had to cut the woman out of the wreckage. A rescue helicopter had also been alerted.

The accident near Neukirchen-Vluyn was reported at around 11:27 a.m. The police blocked the motorway between the Moers junction and the Kerken junction. Drivers are asked to drive around the scene of the accident, a police spokesman said.
