The heart does not become demented

In Vorarlberg, around 1,000 caregiving relatives are delivered fresh rolls directly from the bakery as part of the major nationwide campaign. The gesture is meant to convey an expression of gratitude and appreciation for the valuable work being done at home every day. The importance of home care cannot be overstated and is becoming even more important during these times. Most people would like to be able to stay at home when they get old, even if they can no longer manage on their own and need support. In the dementia model communities, people are very aware of this valuable contribution by spouses and other relatives – staying in familiar surroundings for as long as possible is particularly important for people with dementia.

This breakfast community campaign by the participating communities is intended to raise awareness of the valuable contribution that caring relatives make to their loved ones, but also to society as a whole. The bread rolls from the baker may only be a small gesture, but they are intended to show the appreciation shown to family caregivers.

Early on Sunday morning on 05/07/2023, the streets still quiet and deserted, met Sabine Moosbrugger, Friedrich Wittwer, Wesna Reiner and Theresa Brugger at the Forum Leiblachtal to prepare and deliver the breakfast greeting as part of the dementia campaign. The rolls and croissants were grouped according to household size and the distribution routes were divided. Thankfully, the campaign in Leiblachtal was also supported by the Mangold bakery. Over 90 households were visited in the five Leiblachtal communities where people are cared for and cared for in their own four walls. Everywhere the drivers were warmly greeted and welcomed, of course the visit was arranged in advance. In many families, the supporters are an important part of the care organization. It is often only possible to stay at home in familiar surroundings for as long as possible through intensive cooperation between the nursing staff and the relatives. The employees are usually directly involved in family life and events. It is also important for Sabine Moosbrugger, Friedericke Wittwer, Wesna Reiner and Theresa Brugger to express their personal gratitude and appreciation for the priceless care to the relatives caring for them at home. You know the challenges of everyday life and the many prejudices associated with dementia.

The Dementia Campaign offers free, personal counseling sessions for people with dementia and their caring relatives. There are also still places available in the day care of the social district Leiblachtal to relieve the relatives. A family members group for caring relatives will start in autumn – for people with or without dementia. Questions about dementia and contact Sabine Moosbrugger in Leiblachtal on 06641987288.
