After confirmation of the death sentence: Gazelle Sharmahd criticizes Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock

Gazelle Sharmahd: Verdict is the result of government inaction

Osnabruck. After the death sentence against the German-Iranian Jamshid Sharmahd was confirmed by a court in Iran, his daughter Gazelle criticized the German government around Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock: “I’ve been warning for 1,000 days that this will happen. That my father is now about to be executed is a fact the result of our government’s inaction,” she told the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” (NOZ). “Where were the serious consequences that Ms. Baerbock spoke of when a German citizen was kidnapped and sentenced to death in a show trial?”

If her father’s death sentence cannot be avoided, no one can feel safe from the Iranian regime. “If my father is not saved, real action is taken to save his life, then we can all stop talking about human rights,” she said.

Jamshid Sharmahd was arrested by the Iranian secret service in Dubai in the summer of 2020. Since then he has been in prison in Iran. On February 21, the Revolutionary Court sentenced him to death for “corruption on earth”. He lived in the USA for many years and was involved in the exile opposition group “Tondar”.
