But what need? Why so much trouble? Almost a year from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, there are more and more cases and names of Mexican athletes who must pay their own expenses to seek the Olympic ticket due to the abandonment of CONADE due to its political differences with international federations and among those names is the double Olympic medalist Alejandra Orozco.

Like Paolo Espinosa, Orozco is the diver with the most Olympic medals for Mexico and she is the youngest athlete to win a medal, at just 16 years old, in London 2012. La Guadalajara will look for that ticket to the 2024 Olympics, where she could become the Mexican woman with more medals together with María del Rosario Espinoza, with three metals.

However, Orozco, like all divers and athletes involved in swimming sports, they lack support from CONADE led by Ana Gabriela Guevara.

Why doesn’t Conade support divers and swimming athletes?

CONADE withdrew its support for Alejandra Orozco and the rest of the divers due to the conflict with World Aquatics, which is the evolution of the International Swimming Federation (FINA), since it ignores the president of the Mexican Swimming Federation, Kiril Todorov, for alleged serious irregularitiessince January 2022.

Guevara and CONADE, however, do recognize Todorov as president of the federation despite the fact that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), ruled against Todorovwho can be disqualified for up to 20 years, however, the manager appealed the decision.

As the lawsuit continues, the athletes will be without support. The “good” thing about the case is that World Aquatics supports Mexican athletes by allowing them to compete during the process towards the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

I promise you that the best athletes will be able to represent Mexico in Fukoka, Japan., (at the World Diving Championships) in July. I promise that those who dream of qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics will have the chance to do so.”said Husain Al-Musallam, president of World Aquatics.

Alejandra Orozco obtains resources on her own

Faced with this situation and while this problem is resolved, Alejandra Orozco began with a fundraiser “to support” their preparation and competitions for the Paris 2024 Olympic cycle, through conferences.

The diver performed the first conference at the International Congress of Physical Education and School Sportsheld in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, with a 40-minute exposition, in exchange for financial support.

Alejandra Orozco, together with Gaby Agúndez, won the national selection to go to the World Diving Championshipfrom Fukuoka, Japan in July, both individually and synchronized from the 10-meter platform.

Meanwhile, Mexican athletes are raffling off international medals without help from CONADEas in the case of cycling and swimming, with Nuria Diosdado and Joana Jiménez, who won gold in the World Artistic Swimming Championships.

Meanwhile, CONADE has already saved a bundle this year, in which it received a budget of two thousand 322 million pesos, amount that was considered insufficient for Mexican sports, according to Mari Jose Alcalá, president of the Mexican Olympic Committee. Insufficient or not, that ticket is not reaching Mexican athletes.
