Algeria’s international trade register continues to expand and many new economic poles are created. Extra-virgin olive oil is a good example; after being selected for their excellence, several brands 100 % Algerian companies have started exporting their products.

The brand Dahbia particularly stands out in the lot. Awarded around the world, this brand adds a new quality label to its list: the GIOOC 2023 awarded in Norway.

Olive oil Dahbia awarded in Scandinavia: a new honor for Algeria

Dahbiathe Algerian olive oil brand, continues to be talked about. Indeed, the brand headed by Hakim Hallelujah operates olive groves in the Ain region Oussarain Djelfa. The group’s holdings have some 15,000 trees and shrubs with a total capacity estimated at 20,000 lites per year.

The group’s favorite variety is the typical Kabylian olive, the Chemlal ». This olive is harvested and then pressed the same day to reduce the rate of oxidation as much as possible. This process produces an oil that is low in acidity, rich in taste and above all, 100% organic. Specificities that were unanimous with the jury of the Scandinavian International Olive Oil Competition (IOOC 2023) in Oslo, Norway. Thus, after winning awards in Dubai and Tokyo earlier this year, olive oil Dahbia wins another international distinction.

Algerian olive oil recognized worldwide: a potential new international leader?

Dahbia is not the only olive oil producer that is the pride of Algeria. A plethora of other brands have been honored by globally recognized competitions over the past 2 years. Baghlia, Azemmour, larbaa Olive or even, Numidia are good examples.

The Ministry of Commerce, for its part, announced a project aimed at promoting Algerian olive oils internationally. The goal is to diversify Algeria’s exports and get out of the usual register of hydrocarbons.

If it is already present in Algeria’s international transactions, the olive oil market can be optimized to yield more results, the ministry says. In 2021 we have exported nearly 600,000 liters of olive oilcapitalizing $2 million in revenue. The objective between now and 2024 is to double these figures by expanding the customer portfolio from 19 to 50 importing countries.
