13 minutes into 2023, little Amaya was born at Akershus University Hospital. She is perfectly healthy, weighs 3730 grams and has very proud parents.
– It goes really well. I am very proud of the mother who has put up with all this and managed it so well. Everything was problem-free and went as it should, says father Kaloyan Kalinov Kolev.

Amaya is his and mother Natalie Lystad Abounouar’s first born.
– It feels absolutely magical, says Kolev.
– Suddenly they meet
She was born exactly at the same time as a little boy in Bergen and thus shares the title of “new year’s child” with him.
– Suddenly they meet sometime in the future, says Kolev. I watched the news and thought “oh, what a coincidence”.
He reveals that the child could just as well have been a 2022 model.
– We thought a lot about the child in the future. If she was born on the 31st of December, the last day before the New Year, it would have been a bit awkward for her, I think. My wife could give birth as early as nine o’clock, but she chose to push again until closer to 12 o’clock, so that the child could be born on 1 January. She managed that well, says Kolev.
