Mexico City.- The Chinese Ambassador to Mexico, Zhang Run, assured that there are no reports between the two nations of illegal trafficking of substances to manufacture fentanyl.
During a meeting with the Senate’s Asia-Pacific Foreign Relations Commission, the diplomat assured that there is strict control in his country over the handling of substances with which the drug is manufactured.
“We have been the first country in the world to formally bring all varieties of fentanyl substances under control and we have always established, carried out, strict control and monitoring of chemicals that are fentanyl precursors.
“As of 2019 there is a control of all varieties of substances between China and Mexico, no problem of smuggling of substances has ever been detected, and we have not received a report from the Mexican side of any reported case,” the Ambassador explained to the answer questions about the case.
He pointed out that said control is maintained, after versions coming from the United States have been published that the precursors come from China.
“Recently in the Mexican media, attention has been paid to an alleged problem of the introduction of fentanyl, of the substances from China to Mexico, to take advantage of its entry into the United States,” he commented, noting that, on the contrary, in his country there are strict control.
He assured that China is part of various agreements with the UN where it has promised to work against drug trafficking.
Zhang Run stated that it is in the United States where there is not enough control.
“I want to emphasize that the abuse of fentanyl resides in the United States of America, that country so far has not controlled fentanyl precursor substances.
“In addition, the issue of the abuse of this drug is increasingly strong. Domestic control and monitoring must be strengthened to reduce the demand for fentanyl,” he said about the omissions in the US.
