Authorities in the northern region of Ukraine order the evacuation of civilians from border areas

The regional military administration of Ukraine’s northern Sumy region orders the evacuation of border areas amid persistent cross-border shelling.

“The evacuation of the residents of the Sumy region from the 5-kilometer zone is a long-standing need,” said Volodymyr Artiukh, head of the Sumy regional military administration.

The bombings cause widespread destruction of property and the death of civilians.

The decision was made after a “comprehensive analysis of the operational situation” in the area “based on the results of reports from the military, district heads and territorial communities,” Artiukh said.

At the end of June, the Ukrainian military asked residents of the border areas of the Sumy region to leave their homes. The commander of the combined forces, Serhiy Naev, said then: “The Sumy direction remains the most dangerous in the northern operational zone.”
