The new offer from the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians in North Rhine has been well received. Parents of sick children sought medical advice at Christmas.

A video consultation offered by the North Rhine Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians was used 1092 times over Christmas by parents of sick children. According to the panel doctors, more than 300 parents sought advice on Christmas Eve, on December 25 there were a good 400 and on Christmas Day almost 370. The KV North Rhine had offered the digital consultation hours because of overcrowded pediatric practices.

Parents were able to contact a pediatrician directly to receive an initial medical assessment. A total of 26 doctors in a two-shift system clarify whether a visit to a children’s emergency service practice is necessary.

Parents can register on Wednesdays and weekends

The consultation hours funded by the NRW Ministry of Health will be offered until the end of January. Specifically, parents can contact the child emergency service on Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on weekends from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. You will then receive a link to the video consultation hour. For this you need a mobile phone, a tablet or a computer with a camera and microphone. No additional software needs to be installed.

Many children’s practices and children’s wards are currently extremely overcrowded. Experts are reporting an enormous wave of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections, which can be dangerous for babies. (dpa)
