New bear report from Bavaria: As reported by the State Office for the Environment, one of the predators is responsible for the death of two sheep. What that means for people.
A bear killed several sheep in Bavaria. In the district of Rosenheim in the border region with Austria, two dead and one injured sheep were found on Wednesday. The injured sheep later had to be euthanized. This was announced by the State Office for the Environment.
Through genetic samples, external injuries to the animals and tracks, the incident could be assigned to a bear. So far there has not been a sighting of the bear or a direct encounter between humans and bears.
State office advises caution
“According to current knowledge, the bear behaves shyly towards humans,” said the state office. Livestock owners in the border area of the district to Austria are asked to stable their animals at night if possible and to take herd protection measures. The authorities could support this with fencing material. Further measures would be examined.
In addition, the office advises in its press release: “When encountering a bear, it is important to remain calm. The State Office for the Environment and the police will receive information from the population.”
