Mexico City.– President Andrés Manuel López Obrador disappeared the Coordination of Historical and Cultural Memory of Mexico, of which his wife, Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller, was president of the Honorary Advisory Council.
The repeal of said office in the Regulations of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic, created since 2019 and which for this year had a budget of 23.8 million pesos assigned, was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation.
The Historical Memory Coordination was headed by Eduardo Villegas, who was named Ambassador to Russia and no replacement had been named.
The coordination had the attribution of developing and promoting the right to memory, and developing strategies to disseminate, project and guarantee the right to memory of the Nation at a national and international level.
It also had the power to promote actions for the preservation, conservation, restoration and protection of the heritage protected by national and regional, public and private entities, in coordination with the corresponding instances.
Another function was to design, develop and implement the Great Repository of Historical and Cultural Memory of Mexico, whose main objective was to make the country’s historical and cultural information available to the public, establishing the bases for its conservation in interoperable digital formats.
It had the function of collaborating with the competent administrative units of the dependencies and entities of the Federal Public Administration in the review of the execution of the projects and specific agreements, which provide infrastructure to the national and regional historical archives.
In the decree published today, the Technical Secretariat of the National Security Council also disappears as part of the technical support units of the Office of the Presidency.
However, in transitory articles it is provided that the technical secretary of the National Security Council will report directly to the President of the Republic, but all his specialized technical support team will be administratively attached to the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection.
