The best pastry chef is a television program broadcast in France on M6 since November 26, 2012, and in Belgium on RTL TVI. It is presented as the first amateur competition dedicated to pastry. In this show, the various pastry enthusiasts come to “compete against each other with their best recipes and take up the challenges of the judges”.

This year it is “The Best Pastry Chef Algeria” which was born on Echorouk TV with Mehdi Yadés as hosts and two names in Algerian pastry: Mehdi Pâtissier and Gateaux Louza. Registrations had also been launched on October 13, 2023, on the official Facebook page of the show.

It’s time for filming, and for this the show has chosen one of the emblematic places of the capital: Le Jardin d’essai du Hamma. It is therefore in an environment that stands out, that the Best Pastry Chef sets up his tent in Algeria.

Filming has already started some time ago, and for this first season it is none other than Mercotte himself who traveled to Algeria to attend this first season. If we expected her to be in awe of the achievements of young Algerian talent, she was amazed by something else.

Mercotte: the gastronomic critic captivated by the Hamma test garden

First of all, remember that Mercotte is a French TV host, food critic and food blogger. She has been a member of the jury on the program Le Meilleur Pâtissier on M6 since 2012, hence her coming to Algeria to attend the filming of “the Algerian version”.

As previously explained, this takes place in the Hamma test garden and Mercotte was captivated by the beauty of the place. On the garden’s official account, two videos were broadcast, first showing the beauty of the place, then secondly the welcome Mercotte received in Algeria.

From the first seconds, Mercotte explains that the place is magnificent. She affirms to be very happy that the filming is done in the Hamma test garden, and that they have not “never shot in such a beautiful setting”.

In a second video, interviewed by a journalist, Mercotte testifies to the welcome received in Algeria. She explains that it was striking as soon as she arrived at the airport. The famous food critic says: “the reception was enormous, even at the airport everyone says welcome to me, I put a little post on my account, saying that I was going to Algiers and I received more than 900 Comments! »

Then she returns to the place ” magical “ recalling that it is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. She adds that this is just “exceptional” while describing said environment.
