Specialized agents from the General Directorate of Customs-AFIP stationed at the Iguazú – Foz de Iguazú International Border Crossing discovered that a person was trying to get 40,000 dollars and 42,000 pesos out of the country without declaring.
As reported by the General Directorate of Customs, customs personnel had approached to ask routine questions to the Brazilian citizen – who was trying to cross the border from Argentina to his country of origin through the Tancredo Neves International Bridge. The agents noticed that he was moving strangely, as if denoting fatigue. However, attentive to his reaction, they quickly noticed signs of nervousness and noticed that his clothing had bulging parts.
The Brazilian citizen (who stated that he was a student residing in our country) revealed that he was carrying, hidden in the stockings of both legs, bundles of numerous bills wrapped in polyethylene bags.
Since the amount finally accounted for was four times the limit allowed by the baggage regime, the customs personnel seized the money under article 979 of the CA. and duly filed a complaint before the courts. The citizen could be fined up to USD 120,000.
