Operation on Friday evening at the Marl-Sinsen train station: A witness had discovered an abandoned suitcase. Explosives experts took care of the matter.

The Marl-Sinsen train station was completely closed on Friday evening. A witness found an unattended suitcase around 6:40 p.m. and called the police. Emergency services cordoned off the train station and explosives specialists are examining the find. Around 1 a.m. on Saturday morning, a spokeswoman for the Recklinghausen police confirmed that the suitcase had been blown up in a controlled manner using a water jet: “The defused officers have given the all-clear, there is no longer any danger.”

During the operation, some surrounding roads were closed to traffic. The police reopened most of the streets early in the morning. Only the underpass at the station was still closed because the securing of evidence was ongoing. A second item was also found next to the suitcase. For the time being, the police did not give any further details on this subject for “investigative tactical reasons”.
