Brutal impact in hit-and-run accident leaves fatality without shoes

A 35-year-old woman was fatally struck while crossing the road by a hit-and-run driver in North Philadelphia early Thursday morning.

The incident was reported to have taken place in the 2700 block of North Broad Street at 3:39 a.m.

The victim, who sustained severe head trauma, was found on the ground with one of her shoes missing from the blow she received, according to Chief Inspector Scott Small. “This was a fatal hit-and-run incident,” he noted.

He said that they preliminarily know, after interviewing witnesses, that it was a white sedan, possibly Toyota, which stopped on Lehigh Avenue right after the impact, but then continued driving.

Detectives found a piece of plastic at the scene that could be part of the car involved in the accident.

So far no arrests have been made, nor has the victim been identified. The investigation is still active.
