Angelina Jolie was born in 1975 to Hollywood actor Jon Voight and Canadian actress Marcheline Bertrand. She has a brother. Jolie’s parents separated after five years of marriage.

Jolie, who first appeared in front of the camera with her parents at the age of five, grew up in Los Angeles and near New York and took acting classes at the famous “Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute” while still at school. She started modeling at 14, finished school at 16 and moved to New York.

After appearing in music videos, Jolie regularly took on major film roles in her early 20s. Her first starring role was in “Gia,” a TV movie about a former lesbian heroin-addicted supermodel who died of AIDS.

At just 24, Jolie received her first Oscar for the supporting role of a psychiatric patient in the film Crazy. Jolie’s international breakthrough came when she starred as Lara Croft in 2001’s Tomb Raider, becoming an international superstar.

In 2004, Jolie was voted “Sexiest Woman Alive” by People Magazine. A year later the film “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” starring her and Brad Pitt and was the endorsement of the award for many. Jolie’s black leather look has been remembered ever since.

Successful films followed. In 2014, Jolie starred in the live-action adaptation Maleficent, based on the Disney animated classic The Sleeping Beauty (1959). The second part followed in 2019.

Together with her now ex-husband Brad Pitt, Jolie has three adopted children from abroad: in 2002 her eldest son Maddox came from Cambodia, in 2005 the daughter Zahara Marley from Ethiopia and in 2007 an orphaned boy from Vietnam whom she named Pax Thien.

Until now, Jolie is known for her commitment. She was one of the first stars to address humanitarian issues not only in political circles but also in the media.

In 2004, Jolie stated that she was distancing herself from her father. A few years earlier, in a TV interview, he said that his daughter had serious emotional difficulties. So far, Jolie has not wanted to make the exact reason for the broken relationship with her father public.

The couple wed in a small ceremony at their Château Miraval winery on the French Riviera in the summer of 2014. They have six children together: three adopted and three biological.

After almost ten years of relationship and two years of marriage, Jolie filed for divorce in 2016. The reason: Pitt is said to have freaked out in the private jet and become violent!
