The association Zentrum Kalter Krieg eV welcomes the result of the dialogue procedure on Checkpoint Charlie. The agreed urban planning guidelines represent a “workable compromise” and would allow the construction of a museum on the east side of the property. This marks “an important step on the way to establishing the planned museum on the history of the Cold War,” said board members Andreas Etges and Hanno Hochmuth.

The implementation of this museum is a great opportunity and should not be put off by new provisional arrangements. “The urban emptiness demanded by some sides in the dialogue process does not do justice to the outstanding international importance of Checkpoint Charlie as a place of remembrance of the Cold War.” After all, more than four million international tourists come to Checkpoint Charlie every year to learn more about the Cold War there to learn.

“The fact that all the Senate administrations and stakeholders involved have now come together for the dialogue process is a great step forward.” The Cold War Center Association has been campaigning for the planned museum for over ten years.
