Company that owns the submersible Titan suspends operations

WASHINGTON – The company owner of submersible that imploded on a trip to the ruins of Titanic announced Thursday that it is suspending all operations.

OceanGate, an Everett, Washington-based company, owned the submersible. Titan, It imploded as it descended on June 18 toward the wreckage of the Titanic in the North Atlantic.

The implosion killed all five people on board, including the submersible’s pilot and company CEO Stockton Rush.

The company’s website said on Thursday that it “has suspended all exploration and commercial operations.”

The Coast Guard Investigate the implosion.

OceanGate is headquartered in the United States. OceanGate Expeditions, a subsidiary, is registered in the Bahamas. The Titan submersible “was not a US flag vessel and was never verified or certified by the US Coast Guard,” it said.
