In Sudan, the parties to the conflict have agreed on a 24-hour ceasefire. The guns should be silent for a day from 6:00 p.m. (CEST) today, the army said. However, an extension is not planned, said General Shams El Din Kabbashi of the ruling military council on the Al-Arabiya TV station. The leader of the army’s rival paramilitaries (RSF), General Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, said his units supported the ceasefire.
According to the UN, at least 185 people have been killed and more than 1,800 injured in the fighting that has been going on since Saturday. According to observers, the conflict was triggered by a dispute over the integration of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) into the military as part of the transition to a civilian government.
The army staged a coup in October 2021 and has ruled the country ever since. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had mediated between the two sides in the past few days.
