NEW YORK — Police are urging people to avoid Union Square in Manhattan as they try to contain the fallout from a game console drop-off event.
A crowd of several hundred people filled the park on Friday afternoon as chaos erupted. Video from the scene showed people throwing objects, pushing and breaking down various barriers.
New York City police have advised people to stay away from the area and that drivers should expect traffic delays during rush hour.
A department spokesperson confirms that hundreds of people had gathered for popular Twitch streamer and YouTube creator Kai Cenat. Social media posts heralded a major giveaway event, including PlayStation 5 consoles.
