Reinerio Ruíz Santiago, a native of La Lisa and artistically known as “El Bombón de la Salsa”, began studying piano and guitar at the age of six. In 1991 he left Cuba for the Dominican Republic to settle in Miami a few months later.
In 1992, Rey Ruiz released his eponymous debut album, which was received with great enthusiasm by the public and critics. The album, with which he achieved platinum sales, earned him a Billboard award, Lo Nuestro awards and being named the New Salsa Singer of the Year for Salsa Tropical.
The single “No Me Acostumbro” became a resounding success and reached the top of music charts in several countries.
Throughout his career, in which he has released 16 studio albums, the Cuban salsa singer Rey Ruiz has given his audience unforgettable hits that continue to sound on the dance floors and are in preferred seats for lovers of the most tropical.
Songs like “Amiga”, “Si Te Preguntan” and “Creo en el Amor” are authentic hymns of romantic salsa that contributed to giving him greater international recognition and consolidating him as an important exponent of Latin music.
From the origins of “My Half Half”one of his most anthological songs, recently said when celebrating the 28th anniversary of its release: “This song written by Gustavo Márquez appears and there is something that catches my attention, that breaks with the other songs that I had heard on the radio. It was a phrase that said: ‘and his love left me like an elevator, when I don’t have wings’.
