O Complementary support to the Creative Europe Programme, part of the DGArtes Project Support Programme, has a total allocation of 450,000 euros, which will be allocated to ten projects in the music field, four cross-disciplinary projects, two in visual arts, one in theater and another of new media, according to information available on the official DGArtes website.

This “simplified procedure” was opened “with a view to enhancing the participation of Portuguese entities coordinating or partnering with applications already selected by the Creative Europe Program (Cultural and Transectorial Strand — Creative Innovation Lab)”.

Of the 18 supported projects, which will run until December 31, 2024, “15 are registered in the ‘Culture’ strand – which includes European cooperation projects and European platforms – and three in the cross-sectoral ‘Ação Creative Innovation Lab’ strand, four of which are led by Portuguese entities, which they coordinate, and 14 have Portuguese entities as partners”.

DGArtes recalls that, “with this complementary multi-annual support”, it intends to “boost the internationalization of Portuguese arts and culture through cooperation with other countries and the promotion of the presence of international projects in Portugal”.

In addition, “it is also intended to encourage the articulation of the arts with other sectoral areas, encourage emerging projects and value artistic experimentation”.

Applications for complementary support to the Creative Europe program took place between 20 January and 21 February this year. However, they should have opened in September of last year, according to DGArtes’ annual statement for 2022.

Among the entities with supported projects are AMAEI – Association of Independent Music Artists and Publishers, Bando à Parte and the cultural associations Gerador, Arena Ensemble and OUT.RA.

The amount of support varies between around 2,600 euros and 40,000 euros.

DGArtes’ 2022 annual statement provided for more tenders to support projects that ended up opening applications later than expected.

The limited competition for the selection of the curatorial and exhibition project of official Portuguese representation at the 18th Venice Architecture Biennale, with an endowment of 350 thousand euros, which should have opened in August, opened in October and the winning project was announced in December .

The remaining calls for support for projects scheduled for 2022, in the areas of creation, programming and internationalisation, with a total allocation of 9.2 million euros, opened on December 29, with applications running until February. There are still no known results of any of these contests.
