After the end of nuclear power, the coalition is discussing how to proceed with the energy supply. The SPD boss rejects an FDP idea.

The SPD chairman Saskia Esken has rejected calls by the FDP to rely on nuclear fusion for energy production after the last nuclear reactors have been shut down. “Anyone who gives the impression that this technology can make a reliable contribution to our energy supply in the foreseeable future is throwing sand in people’s eyes,” Esken told the editorial office. “With nuclear fusion – the imitation of energy production in the sun – no one has come up with a green branch, even in many decades of intensive research.”

She was “very happy” that Germany had finally managed to phase out the highly dangerous nuclear power,” said Esken. Instead of relying on nuclear fusion, the Expansion of renewable energies be further advanced. “In this way we are creating an energy supply that makes us independent, is climate-neutral and, in contrast to nuclear power, does not produce ever radiant waste.”

FDP parliamentary group leader Dürr: “Nuclear fusion produces stable, environmentally friendly energy”

FDP parliamentary group leader Christian Dürr had spoken out in favor of nuclear fusion. “Nuclear fusion produces stable, environmentally friendly energy – independent of wind and sun. I see a great opportunity in that,” Dürr told the editorial team. “Nuclear fusion can become an important pillar of our electricity production.” Dürr called for a change in the law. “Fusion is currently covered by nuclear law – although no high-level radioactive waste is produced at all,” he said.

“We should create our own legal framework for nuclear fusion: a nuclear fusion law,” demands the FDP politician. Countries like France and Great Britain are already a step ahead. “That shows that we have to act quickly.” Dürr emphasized: “I want one of the first nuclear fusion reactors to be built in Germany. To do this, we should make the use of nuclear fusion less bureaucratic.”
