FC Bayern is currently going through a turbulent time. CEO Oliver Kahn is also attacked. Now the longtime goalkeeper has commented on speculation.

Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn responded to criticism of his person in an interview. “Look, a lot is said about FC Bayern every day. The regular meeting of the supervisory board takes place on May 22nd, like every year at the end of the season. All current topics are of course discussed there together. I concentrate 100 percent to my work,” said Kahn in an interview with the Munich Merkur/tz media group. The 53-year-old himself is being criticized in the course of the current crisis in Bayern, there is speculation that the former goalkeeper “Titan” will leave early, who has been the most powerful man in the club since 2021.

It’s all about the championship now. “Everything else doesn’t interest me,” Kahn continued. “FC Bayern isn’t just any job for me, it’s a matter close to my heart. That doesn’t just apply to moments when the sun is shining. I’m fighting for FC Bayern. I’ve done that as a goalkeeper for 14 years, and that’s what I’m doing now and I will continue to do so in the future. You can be sure of that.”

After the 3-1 loss in Mainz last weekend, Bayern are second behind Borussia Dortmund in the 30th matchday, on which they will host bottom-placed Hertha BSC in Munich this Sunday (from 3:30 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online).

Master? “We’ll still make it”

Kahn is convinced of winning the German championship title again. “Of course we want to be German champions again this year – and we’ll still make it. There have always been difficult situations in the past, from which FC Bayern have always escaped and emerged from them stronger.”

The decisive factor is that the management never let themselves be disturbed. “And that will be the case this time too,” announced Kahn five games before the end of the season. Because of the performance, the 53-year-old and sports director Hasan Salihadmidzic is currently under public criticism. “I can handle criticism as long as it doesn’t become personal,” Kahn explained.

Kahn welcomed the surprising appearance of Honorary President Uli Hoeneß during training for the troubled record champion. “It was a strong gesture from Uli to show his fist on the training ground. A clear gesture: we’ll show it to everyone,” said Kahn. Hoeneß showed up on the club grounds on Wednesday and talked to coach Thomas Tuchel. Even an experienced coach like Tuchel – who had succeeded Julian Nagelsmann on leave – could not change everything overnight, explained Kahn.

The former goalkeeper emphasized that he works with club president Herbert Hainer and the supervisory board “in a trusting and collegial manner – and that also applies to my cooperation with Uli Hoeneß”. The 71-year-old is still considered very influential at FC Bayern, who after losing the Champions League and DFB Cup are now also worried about the end of their title series in the Bundesliga.
