Chihuahua, Chih.- The Mexican artist Rocío Caballero portrays realism in different pathologies of society, as well as a critique of human behavior
The pictorial exhibition called “Dystopian Fables” by the Mexican artist, Rocío Caballero, is located at the Museo Casa Chihuahua, which causes a lot of surprise due to its realism when portraying different pathologies of society, as well as a critique of human behavior.
It is made up of 25 mixed technique paintings that have a narrative of the social pathologies of contemporary times.
The excellent discursive capacity, as well as the undeniable talent of Rocío Caballero in painting, have led her to obtain numerous recognitions and awards for her work, such as the Salón de la Plástica Mexicana award and the X MEXAM/IVSC Artist Fellowship, Vermont. Studio Center, among many others.
From his current series “Dystopian Fables”, he reviews classic forms, while exploring a field of anti-values -classism, racism, criminality and abuse from power- by portraying characters from the ruling classes with ironic references to idealizations of the childhood.
It locates a scene influenced by childhood, allegory, ambiguity in the relationship between sweet fantasy and horrifying reality. In his work, what she wishes to hide is simultaneously created: the repressed, erased or naturalized reference point of violence.
Originally from Azcapotzalco, Mexico City, she studied at the INBA Artistic Initiation School number 4 and later graduated from the La Esmeralda National School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving. Her trajectory as a painter spans 29 years, the last 18 she has worked on the series of images of “the gray goblins”.
He has 19 individual exhibitions in Mexico and the United States. His latest show, titled The news from the Kingdom of Yuppieland, was held virtually at the invitation of The Center for Creativity and the Arts and the University of California at Fresno in February 2021. Among his recognitions are: the 2nd. Place in the 1st Biennial of Latin American and Caribbean Painting (2002); honorable mentions at The 10th Annual MEXAM/VSC Artist Fellowship, Vermont Studio Center, Vermont, USA (2002) and at the XIII National Meeting of Young Art (1993). She was selected at the VII Rufino Tamayo Painting Biennial and at the XIV National Meeting of Young Art (1994).
His work is part of the collections at the Institute of Culture of the State of Campeche, the Kaluz Museum, the Heritage Collection of the Museo del Arzobispado, the Milenio Foundation, the Black Coffee Gallery Foundation and the National Museum of Mexican Art, Chicago, Illinois, USA. .
He has dabbled in graphics working co-editions with the workshops: Caracol Púrpura, Colectivo La Malagua, Extra Editores, Pinacoteca 2000 and La Trampa Contemporánea.
