The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune had today, Tuesday, February 7, a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, where he once again presented his sincere condolences following the devastating earthquake which struck his country, indicates a press release from the Presidency of the Republic.

According to the press release from the Presidency: “The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune had a telephone conversation on Tuesday with his brother, the President of the Turkish Republic, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during which he reiterated to him, in his own name and in the name of the Algerian people, its sincere condolences for the victims of the devastating earthquake which struck a large part of the South-East of Turkey”.

The Head of State also affirmed that “Algeria will stand alongside Turkey to overcome this ordeal which has bereaved the brotherly Turkish people”, adds the same source. Also displaying “the availability of Algeria to provide and send aid to Turkey”.

Elsewhere, “the Turkish President thanked his brother, the President of the Republic, for having lent aid and assistance from the first hours of this terrible disaster”, welcoming “Algeria’s solidarity position”, the statement concluded.

Algerian civil protection delivers an initial assessment of the rescue mission in Turkey

Since yesterday, and on the orders of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, civil protection teams, but also the Algerian Red Crescent, have been in Turkey and Syria, to come to the aid of the rescuers on site, in order to be able to save as many people as possible trapped under the rubble, following the earthquakes experienced by these two countries since yesterday, Monday February 6, 2023.

According to a report revealed by Civil Protection, during the evening of today, Tuesday February 7, the Algerian team was able to rescue an infant living under the rubble in Adiyaman, Turkey, while the rescue operation of the mother continues in the spotlight.

The team also managed to recover the bodies of two deceased people (a man and a woman), while state television reported that the Algerian rescue team was able to extract a girl alive from the rubble.

In addition, the President of the Algerian Red Crescent, Ibtissem Hamlaoui announced that 40 volunteers specialized in first aid have been sent to the disaster areas under this humanitarian operation, indicating that “contacts remain permanent with the Turkish and Syrian Red Crescents to assess the humanitarian needs of the two countries”. Also with delivery of 95 tonnes of various humanitarian donations to Turkey.
