Dusseldorf.
In order to relieve schools, the loss of lessons should still not be recorded. The opposition speaks of the “blind flight” of the school minister.

Until the end of the school year, the number of lessons lost in North Rhine-Westphalian schools will not be recorded nationwide. School Minister Dorotheé Feller (CDU) confirmed this in a report to the specialist committee of the Düsseldorf state parliament in response to a request from the SPD opposition. The minister had already announced to the school committee last September that the systematic recording of the absence of lessons would also remain suspended for the entire 2022/23 school year in order to relieve the schools in the corona pandemic.

SPD speaks of “education catastrophe in NRW”

The SPD is now calling for the survey to be reintroduced immediately. “Minister Feller must not continue to act blindly,” emphasized Dilek Engin, spokeswoman for school policy for the SPD parliamentary group, in a statement on Monday. At least since the most recent national educational comparison, it has become clear “how big the education catastrophe in NRW actually is”. A transparent data basis therefore does not tolerate any delay.

In view of the more relaxed corona situation, the SPD no longer sees any reason to continue to suspend the statistics. The black-green state government has no overview of the extent of the drop in classes in the state, said SPD parliamentary group leader Jochen Ott of the “Rheinische Post” (Monday edition), which first reported on the opposition criticism. The data can be queried at any time. “After all, they are available in the schools.” (dpa)
