According to the first projections, the CDU is the winner of the Berlin elections. SPD, Greens and Left must fear for their government majority.

In the Berlin House of Representatives, the CDU ousted the SPD from the top spot on Sunday: the Christian Democrats won the first extrapolations According to ARD and ZDF, 27.5 to 27.8 percent of the votes. This would make them the strongest force in the capital for the first time in more than two decades.

The coalition parties SPD, Greens and Left, on the other hand, all recorded losses. The left comes 12.6 to 12.8 percent. The SPD and the Greens volunteered tight race for second place. They both gained around 18 percent each. The AfD managed to re-enter the House of Representatives with around nine percent. With the FDP, on the other hand, it was initially unclear whether it would exceed the five percent hurdle.

The distribution of seats in new House of Representatives would look like this: CDU 40 to 47 seats, SPD 26 to 31 seats, Greens also 26 to 31 seats, Left 18 to 22 seats, AfD 13 to 16 seats. (fmg)
