Critics of Carlson are probably angry about this. After all, Carlson is considered a right-wing agitator. Apparently he doesn’t shy away from racist statements. He is also repeatedly accused of providing false or misleading information.
A few weeks ago, Carlson caused a stir with a documentary. In it, he downplayed the violence by supporters of President-elect Donald Trump during the Capitol storm on January 6, 2021.
The US moderator repeatedly railed against the elite and accused them of wanting to set up a global dictatorship. He also warns against so-called “woke capitalism” and sees himself as the voice of the little (white) man. He is particularly popular among the arch-conservative Americans in the southern states – and apparently also with Musk.
Elon Musk has been criticized for misinformation on Twitter
Carlson interviewed Musk on Fox News just days before his release. The technology billionaire took over Twitter last October for 44 billion dollars (today around 40 billion euros).
He, too, has been criticized for not doing enough to counter hate speech and misinformation on the platform. Twitter has also repeatedly had to deal with technical problems in recent months and has lost many advertising customers.
