USA

Tucker Carlson was considered the star of the right-wing US news channel “Fox News”. Then came the surprise dismissal. Since then things have been quiet around him, but now he’s coming back. He can probably hope for the support of the world-famous billionaire Elon Musk.

Because: The moderator Carlson has announced that he will move his successful evening show to the online service Twitter. Yesterday he already published the first video. In the usual manner, Carlson railed against the “mainstream” media and finally announced that he would be moderating a program on the short message service.

He praises the Twitter platform to the skies. As if she were the last rock in the surf when it comes to freedom of expression. When it comes to truth.

Tucker Carlson cheers on Twitter

“Amazingly, as of tonight, there aren’t many platforms that allow free speech,” Carlson said. The only one is Twitter. “Here we are now”. He will shortly be “putting on Twitter a new version of the show that we’ve been doing for the last six and a half years,” he adds.

His fan club is happy about the announcement and celebrates the video on Twitter.

Tucker Carlson fans rejoice

The video currently has 16 million views. Many Twitter users responded positively to Tucker’s announcement and applauded his criticism of the US media landscape. “The conservatives are fighting back without taking up arms. Free speech on Twitter is the new battlefield,” writes one user in the comments.

Tucker’s fan club hailed him for his “resurrection” after being fired at Fox News. “Freedom of speech is our sword and truth is our shield,” writes another user. Twitter boss Elon Musk made it possible and gave one of the most influential conservative voices a stage again.

Tucker Carlson herself has been accused of fake news

Critics of Carlson are probably angry about this. After all, Carlson is considered a right-wing agitator. Apparently he doesn’t shy away from racist statements. He is also repeatedly accused of providing false or misleading information.

A few weeks ago, Carlson caused a stir with a documentary. In it, he downplayed the violence by supporters of President-elect Donald Trump during the Capitol storm on January 6, 2021.

The US moderator repeatedly railed against the elite and accused them of wanting to set up a global dictatorship. He also warns against so-called “woke capitalism” and sees himself as the voice of the little (white) man. He is particularly popular among the arch-conservative Americans in the southern states – and apparently also with Musk.

Elon Musk has been criticized for misinformation on Twitter

Carlson interviewed Musk on Fox News just days before his release. The technology billionaire took over Twitter last October for 44 billion dollars (today around 40 billion euros).

He, too, has been criticized for not doing enough to counter hate speech and misinformation on the platform. Twitter has also repeatedly had to deal with technical problems in recent months and has lost many advertising customers.
