Enzo Fernández is a blue. As Benfica Lisbon announced in a statement, an agreement was reached with Chelsea to change the Argentine midfielder. At Stamford Bridge, Fernández has been given a contract until 2031. The legal footer is reportedly raking in a whopping €10m a year.
According to Benfica, the transfer fee is 121 million euros. 25 percent of the fee goes to Fernández’ ex-club River Plate. Probably to avoid problems with financial fair play, Chelsea will transfer this amount in installments.
At the beginning of January, the change seemed to have burst, Benfica coach Roger Schmidt even accused Chelsea of improper action. “They are trying to drive the player insane”, said the German trainer. The newly crowned world champion only moved from River Plate to Lisbon last summer and is now moving to England.
