Tele-Leisure: How did you react when you learned that you were in a duet with Margaux?
Herve: I was delighted, there is a very good atmosphere between us. In addition, we are quite complementary because we do not necessarily have the same tastes. We thought that together we could cover a lot of stuff because I know there are genres she doesn’t like and vice versa. But actually, there were times when we weren’t really connected. But I think no matter who I would have been with, I would have had the same fear. When you’re in a team, it’s nice because you trust others. But I’m afraid to plant the other, to be the ball and chain. And that kind of happened because I wasn’t brilliant. It passed anyway but overall I planted a lot of things. I’m not very proud of myself.

The last match against Renaud could serve as a revenge for the Masters. What state of mind were you in?
It is true that this match had a final spirit since it was he who gave the outcome of the League. But I don’t have too much of a competitive spirit so I don’t think about that too much. Obviously, I try to win but I don’t think too much about the competition. I mainly play against myself and not against others. I’m mostly trying to silence a little demon in me, a saboteur who tells me I’m not going to make it..
You have won several competitions already. Does it add extra pressure to not disappoint?
I think we absolutely all have pressure at different levels. Those who are higher ranked and not yet won have the pressure because of their rank. Those who have won once Arsene, Kevin or I want to show that it was not a fluke. I don’t know if it’s a real pressure or if we create it ourselves, but it’s work to be done on the importance we give to the eyes of others.

So despite your level and your experience, you still have the pressure?
Yes, the more relaxed you are, the better you get there. With as little pressure as possible, in general it goes well. But it’s complicated because we always want to prove to ourselves and to others that we deserve. It’s a permanent fear of legitimacy.
Did you revise specifically for this League of Maestros 2023?
Not really, but you could say that my work consists of a specific revision for the show. I always listen to music and as I do a lot of performances, animations with a lot of songs, necessarily I always work. I had a big end of the year between the tour and the release of the album, titled Schizoscenic (available hereEditor’s note). It’s a variety album but a mixture of several styles. I’m delighted to have released it, now the goal is to make the scene.
