In early January, malicious messages were sent to several schools. Three minors are currently in police custody, suspected of having hacked into the digital spaces of these colleges and high schools and of having disseminated threats of an attack.

In total, 32 schools in the four corners of France were targeted by threats of attacks at the beginning of January. These false bomb alerts or calls to “behead the kouffars” led to evacuations in several high schools, notably in Lille, Oise and Pas-de-Calais.

At the end of investigations carried out by the Central Office for the Fight against Digital Crime of the Judicial Police, three teenagers were placed in police custody on Tuesday, reveals this Wednesday RTL.

These three minors are suspected of having hacked into the digital workspaces of several colleges and high schools in order to spread these false threats of an attack, confirms the Paris prosecutor’s office to BFMTV. They come from Gironde, Val-de-Marne, and Bouches-du-Rhône, and are 14, 15 and 17 years old.

No terrorist connotation

The investigation, opened for “death threats and attacks on an automated data processing system”, continues under the leadership of the cyber department of the Paris prosecutor’s office. At this point, the police are moving towards the trail of a hack emanating from the world of gamers.

According to a source familiar with the matter, the messages were first published on video game forums before being copied, pasted and sent to hacked schools. It is therefore a bad joke, without any terrorist connotation, a priori, we are told.
