The Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS), Alejandro Mayorkas, announced that starting Monday, the agency will begin sending invitations to eligible people who are in the process of applying for a family reunification permit.
The measure applies to nationals of El Salvador, Honduras, Colombia and Guatemala, according to the DHS.
“This requires that a family petition has been filed and that the petition itself has been approved. Once this petition is approved and it is in that quality of waiting time, (you can find it) in a portal called the national visa center ”, explained the immigration lawyer, Kelley Ortega.
Through this means, both the petitioner and the beneficiary will receive notifications if they submitted the application online and used an email to do so. Otherwise, they will receive it by post.
“If they have changed their address, if they no longer use that email, you can update that data because it is expected that the volume of people who receive these invitations will be very large and if a person loses that notification, perhaps they will not have that opportunity to complete the process,” he explained.

The secretary of state, Anthony Blinken, assures that the process is a way to come legally to the United States, which does not require dangerous journeys or placing oneself in the hands of suspected criminals.

- Form I-390 approved
- NVC invitation received
- Demonstrate economic solvency: The petitioner must present an economic solvency package in which he guarantees that the beneficiary will not be a burden to the government.
- Submit data in CBP One
- Travel authorization: This benefit will be available once the data submitted to CBP One is verified.
- Work and social permit for three years: Once here, you are admitted for a period of three years and may apply for a work permit and social security number.
So far it is unknown if it will be renewed or what the guidelines will be after that time, but it is expected that some, already having a process under development, could become residents during this period.
