On the straight ahead we find the profile of the Pontiff in office, that is Pius XI, facing left and adorned with cap, stole and mozzetta. At the top we find the inscription: “PIVS XI PONT. MAX. YEAR II”, while below we can see the author’s signature “MISTRVZZI”.
On the reversehowever, we have the representation of St. Thomas Aquinas, positioned high within a radiant nimbus. At his feet there are other figures, namely Leo XIII, St. Pius V, John XXII, Dante Alighieri and Beatrice. At the top is the inscription: “ALIGHERIO PRAECINENTE JOAN. XXII AD MCCCXXIII SANCT.
