The representatives of the National Environmental Guard announced that in Mahmudia, Tulcea County, the operator of the sewage treatment plant was checked.

“In the case of the town of Mahmudia, following a routine check, the GNM commissioners found that the operator of the treatment plant allowed its operation without ensuring that the quality indicators of the treated water at discharge were within the maximum limits allowed, according to the regulatory act, in the respective natural receptor in the Sf. Gheorghe arm of the Danube”, the commissioners of the Environmental Guard transmitted.

They specified that the operator of the Mahmudia sewage treatment plant was fined 100,000 lei for non-compliance with the environmental protection law.

Also, measures were ordered in order to comply, and the verification of their achievement will be the subject of a future control.

Another check was also made in Murighiol.

“The authorities in the Murighiol locality had problems that the GNM commissioners reported and obviously sanctioned. The first was the fact that on the construction site in Murighiol port, the norms of the environmental authorization are not respected, and the dust raised as a result of the activity is unbearable (something also certified by the locals). Consequently, the GNM commissioners applied a fine to the company that operates the construction site of 15,000 lei and ordered permanent measures for the protection of the atmosphere”, the commissioners of the Environmental Guard sent.

The control teams also fined Murighiol City Hall.

“The second sanction went to the mayor’s office in Murighiol. The GNM commissioners were notified even by the locals of illegal dumping of waste on the UAT Murighiol radius. A team of commissioners went to the spot and found that the citizens’ complaints were confirmed. As a result, the town hall was fined 50,000 lei and immediate measures were ordered to clean up the affected areas”, the quoted source added.

From September 25, the Environmental Guard has been carrying out an extensive control action in the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve.
