Acapulco, Mexico.- At least three cargo trucks and a trailer were set on fire by a group of armed men in a warehouse located on the Acapulco-Zihuatanejo federal highway, in Acapulco, Guerrero.

The cargo vehicles, which were set on fire around 3:00 in the morning this Tuesday, were parked in a building in the town of San Isidro Labrador, 10 kilometers from Acapulco.

Although the fire brigade put out the fire in the warehouse, the units were declared a total loss, according to National Guard sources, who attributed the incident to a criminal group dedicated to extortion in the area.

Acapulco businessmen and merchants have repeatedly denounced that they have to pay criminals to let them work.

The modus operandi is that criminals go to the business and threaten or do so through phone calls.

Dozens of establishments have been set on fire by crime, from taquerias, to restaurants and construction shops.

Business leaders of this tourist destination point out that they also charge a floor to businesses that generate profits on the beaches and streets.

The authorities, for their part, say that the violence registered on the beaches of Acapulco and other areas of the port is due to organized crime groups disputing the extortion of merchants and service presenters.

Meanwhile, this Tuesday the Mexico-Acapulco Highway presents long lines in booths by visitors heading to that tourist destination.
