The rapper’s very first record, released in 1992, was pulled from platforms after Snoop Dogg purchased the catalog from Death Row Records in March 2022.

To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Dr. Dre’s very first solo album, The Chronic, returns this Wednesday to streaming platforms. Almost impossible to find in physical version, the legendary American rap disc has for the occasion also been reissued on vinyl and cassette formats. CDs will also be on sale from April 21 but are already available in pre-order.

The Chronic mysteriously disappeared from streaming services in March 2022, after Snoop Dogg purchased the catalog from Death Row Records, which originally released the album when it was released in 1992. doggy-style by Snoop Dogg has also been removed from the platforms.

“I am delighted that ‘The Chronic’ is being reissued by the distribution company, Interscope Records”, declared Dr. Dre in the columns of the American media ‘variety.

And to add: “Working alongside my colleagues, Steve Berman and John Janick, to re-release this album and make it accessible to fans around the world has been an incredible moment.”

Triple platinum disc

Dr. Dre’s first solo project after the interplanetary success of his group NWA,The Chronic was offered as soon as it was released the third place of the top albums of Billboard magazine, a ranking which he did not leave for 97 weeks.

Certified triple platinum in the United States, this disc includes legendary titles such as let me ride or Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang featuring Snoop Dogg.

In 1998, the magazine The Source class The Chronic among the 100 best rap albums in history while RollingStone ranks it number 138 on the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time” and number two on the “100 Best Albums of the 1990s”.
