Sebastian Vettel was regarded by fans and colleagues alike as outstanding both on and off the race track. For example, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton summed up the career of his long-time competitor: “We’re talking about legends in our sport. I don’t really like this title, to be honest. But I think he’s one of the greatest people we’ve seen in this sport. And we need more like him.”

Sebastian Vettel ended his glorious career in Formula 1 last season. In 2010 he was the youngest driver to date and the second German after Michael Schumacher to win the world championship. At the end of his professional life there are a remarkable 53 wins, 57 poles and four world titles. But not everyone appreciates the merits of the German so highly.

Formula 1 reporter hands out against Vettel

Formula 1 expert Peter Windsor found harsh words for Sebastian Vettel on his Twitch channel. This is how the 70-year-old judged Vettel was just an “ordinary racing driver”. and just not even aggressive in comparison with other greats of the sport.

He would “never have been in the same class” as Lewis Hamilton and, according to Windsor, the two-time world champion Fernando Alonso was always superior to him: “Fernando will always do a better job than Vettel”, states the expert. The Spaniard is also taking over from Vettel at Aston Martin this season.

After starting out at BMW Sauber and Toro Rosso, the now 35-year-old ended up at the Red Bull racing team in 2009, where he was able to celebrate four world championships in a row from 2010 onwards. In 2015, Vettel moved into the cockpit of Scuderia Ferrari before driving for Aston Martin for his last two seasons in 2021.

Peter Windsor criticizes Vettel’s assertiveness

Especially for his last year at Red Bull, Windsor takes the Heppenheim native to court – and also implicitly hands out his teammates at the time: “When he disappeared into midfield in his final year at Red Bull, he was just an ordinary racer and was actually fighting Daniel Ricciardo.”

Windsor complained that Vettel did not want to compete with the Austrian racing team and therefore switched to Ferrari: “He arrived as a four-time world champion, who was greeted with a lot of money and a lot of fan admiration.” However, the 70-year-old believes that there was no performance development there: “He never got better, he was still the same driver. That’s the story of Sebastian Vettel.”

In general, Peter Windsor is largely alone in his judgment of Sebastian Vettel’s career in Formula 1. However, controversial statements from the House of Windsor are also currently booming.
