Four dead, two injured in separate plane crashes ahead of Wisconsin show

Two separate plane crashes leading up to a show at a major aviation convention in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, killed four and injured two on Saturday.the authorities reported.

In one of the accidents, two people were killed when a US T-6, a vintage military ship, crashed into Lake Winnebago at 9 a.m., the Coast Guard said, which recovered the bodies of the two people on board on Saturday night.

The plane reportedly descended rapidly from an altitude of about 3,000 feet, the Coast Guard said, in a crash that also drew a response from the Oshkosh Fire Department, said a statement from the Experimental Aircraft Association, organized by the annual AirVenture convention.

Meanwhile, two people were killed in another accident on Saturday around noon, when a RotorWay 162F helicopter and an ELA 10 Eclipse gyrocopter collided in mid-air in an area of ​​the Wittman Regional Airport designated for the event, organizers said.

Consequently, two people who were injured were transported to a local hospital.where they are in stable condition, the statement said.

So far, the victims have not been identified, as it is expected that the next of kin will be notified, but the organizers of the event specified that the helicopter and gyrocopter belonged to the attendees of the event, and were not involved with the air show.

The air show started around 2:45 p.m. after a brief delay, according to the organizers.

The multi-day AirVenture convention includes air shows, air camps and fireworks, featuring “the largest concentration of aircraft in the world.”

Organizers released Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) guidelines for participants who plan to fly a plane to the festival.

Meanwhile, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said it will send an investigator to begin determining the causes of the two accidents.
