Without the government rebate of 30 cents per liter for petrol and diesel, nor that of 10 cents from the Total group, the price at the pump rose significantly at the start of the year. From this Monday, January 16, nearly half of French tax households will be able to claim their fuel allowance. This new aid system “is equivalent to a discount of 10 cents per liter of fuel on the basis of 12,000 kilometers per year traveled on average for business trips”, assured this Friday, January 13 Gabriel Attal, the Minister of Public Accounts , during the presentation of this measure in a tax center in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes).

The fuel allowance therefore replaces the general rebate on fuel taxation which ended on 31 December. This will have cost the State 8 billion euros in 2022, or “the equivalent of the budget of the Ministry of Justice”, said Gabriel Attal in early December.

Called “worker fuel allowance”, this bonus, the total amount of which amounts to one billion euros, will be paid in one go. But its payment is not automatic. To benefit from it, it will be necessary to make the request on the tax website between this Monday, January 16 and February 28 via a form. The criteria: take a vehicle to get to work and have a reference tax income per unit less than or equal to 14,700 euros annually. It applies to all types of vehicle, including two-wheelers and electric vehicles.

The first payments will be made from January 27 for the first cases processed by the tax services, to the bank account known to the tax authorities for your income tax. As the compensation is paid per individual, and not per household, each member of a modest couple who uses their own vehicle may request it. Traveling to Nice on Sunday, the Minister of Public Accounts Gabriel Attal insisted on “the ease of the process”, which simply requires you to register your civil status, vehicle registration and tax number online. The process can also be done directly in the tax offices.
