The approval rating of the government of Chili collapsed after the controversial pardons that divided the politics of the trans-Andean country at the end of last year. Of all those interviewed, only 25% think that Gabriel Boric manages the nation in an adequate way, while 70% disapprove of him.
This arose after a report published by the consulting firm Plaza Pública, in which it was revealed that the majority of the citizens of the neighboring country are against pardons in general terms. On the other hand, 81% do not support the presidential pardon given to Jorge Mataluna, who was imprisoned before the social outbreak that led to the writing of a new Constitution in Chili.
The negative look you have the trans-andean people on this measure brought approval to the lowest point since the start of the government just under a year agoin part, accompanied by the failure of the new Constitution of Chili that it was not approved and that is now once again in an assembly process that would conclude between October and November.
Some political analysts indicate that there was an “overvaluation” of the president when he took office, since he was seen as a young man who came to revolutionize politics, but once in power he found obstacles. In addition, they highlighted that he also started with a lower approval floor than his predecessors, something that shows the difficulties and political divisions he faced when he took office.
The political cost
Due to the pardons, the young president lost his Chief of Staff and the Minister of Defense, after the measure generated criticism from citizens about the work that was carried out in terms of security.
In an interview with Radio Pauta, Javier Macaya, a politician from the Unión Democrática Independiente, indicated: “You still have an opportunity to amend the mistake made, the damage that is being caused, the feeling of impunity that is generated in the millions of Chileans who saw this as something very infringing on what was the main concern of the country”.
