Gas prices have remained stubbornly high as Labor Day weekend approaches, which could mean a more expensive end-of-summer weekend for Americans with travel plans.

A gallon of regular gasoline was $3.85, on average, on Aug. 14, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA). Stacker compiled statistics on gasoline prices in the Las Vegas metropolitan area (NV only) using AAA data.

The price of oil has not stopped rising in the last month, bringing with it the cost of filling the tank with gasoline. A year ago, gasoline prices were falling from the all-time highs of $5 a gallon reached in June, and today they hover around a year-ago average of $3.96. As oil-producing countries in the Middle East continue to cut production, national averages may even eclipse year-old levels before the end of the summer, according to GasBuddy.
