The Governor of California, Gavin Newson, declared a state of emergency Saturday for much of the southern part of the state during the passage of storm Hilarythe first to hit the entity in 84 years and will come with severe flooding.

“Hilary is currently a Category 2 storm that, according to the National Hurricane Center, is expected to bring ‘catastrophic and life-threatening flooding’ to Baja California and the American Southwest, including Southern CaliforniaNewsom said in a statement.

“Much of the impacts from the storm, including heavy rain and strong winds, are expected to begin today (Saturday) and last through Monday.”warns the governor, who signed the decree in San Diego, where he visited the National Guard troops.

He also met with rescuers and was in communication with federal officials, including the White House, the statement said.

“California has thousands of people on the ground working hand-in-hand with federal and local personnel to support communities” in the face of Hillary’s passing, he said.

Likewise, He recalled that among these forecasts the State Operations Center was activated, from where they are aware of the impacts of rain, wind, flash floods and probable power outages.and the work between the agencies is coordinated.

On the other hand, Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Orange counties issued evacuation warnings for several areas that could be impacted by flooding.

“Hurricane Hilary could cause significant rainfall, flash flooding, high winds, storm surge, tornadoes, dangerous surf, and marine conditions,” the Los Angeles County page warns.

Upon Hilary’s arrival, The Sheriff’s Office of that city issued an alert for the inhabitants and visitors of Santa Catalina Island, in the southwest of the county, urging them to leave “as soon as possible.”.

“Due to forecast storm impacts and possibly extended utility outages, residents and visitors, especially those with medical, access and functional needs, are advised to leave the island“, says the notice.

In this sense, several helicopters flew over riverbed areas within the county warning homeless residents of the potential dangers of the storm.

“We are connecting the homeless with vital services and directing them to safety,” Sheriff Robert G. Luna said on his social media.
