Giant’s new Explore E+ range promises greater comfort, but above all the possibility of exceeding 200 km of autonomy thanks to its new batteries.

The Explore E+ is not new to Giant’s catalog. It is even one of its best-selling VAE. It is undoubtedly for this reason that the world number 1 of the cycle chose to update it as well on its mechanical part as on its electrical part. The new version promises to be more pleasant to drive, but also more efficient in terms of autonomy. If many aspects have been redesigned on the Explore E +, the design is not one of them. The new version takes up the framework and overall aesthetics of the previous one. Indeed, the main changes are elsewhere, starting with the equipment. Indeed, Giant’s electric bike was mainly criticized for its lack of comfort. It is this aspect that has been corrected as a priority. The new version of the VAE now has a front fork worthy of the name, a Suntour capable of 100 mm of travel (against 63 mm previously). But Giant has also reviewed the other comfort elements such as the saddle or the width of the tires, always with a view to making its electric bike more pleasant, especially on long journeys.

Indeed, the Explore E+ is a VAE intended for the city of course, but also for long walks, even for travel. That’s why Giant has also equipped it with new accessories such as a trailer rack. Indeed, this bike is capable of towing a load of up to 156 kg.

Upgrading all the way

The changes are more discreet on the electrical part, but no less important. The level of motorization depends, of course, on the level of finish of the bike, but this will always be based around the SyncDrive Pro architecture. This “home” engine is actually a custom version of the Yamaha PW-X engine reserved for the Giant brand. Its performance and in particular its torque (up to 85 Nm) are identical to classic Yamaha engines, but the settings and the way the assistance is delivered vary slightly.

It is in all cases a quality motorization which in this case can be associated with a new battery pack. Indeed, this is the other major novelty of the Explore E +, its owner can choose between several battery levels: 625 Wh or 800 Wh. He can also opt for an extension (250 Wh), optional, which can bring the total to 1050 Wh. These new batteries are made up of cells supplied by Panasonic, the aptly named 22700. In terms of autonomy, depending on the driving conditions and the size of the cyclist, this VAE would be able to exceed 200 km on a single charge.

The Explore E+ will be on sale in the coming days. The prices for France on this new version are not yet known. On the other hand, if we rely on the prices charged in Germany, these should oscillate between 3,299 euros and 4,999 euros, depending on the level of finish.
