Pensioners receive a basic pension: On Friday the 13th, the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs announced that the basic pension in Germany was successfully enforced.
The basic pension was introduced at the beginning of 2021 for people with a small pension. The pension insurance has successively carried out the necessary reviews of a total of 26 million pensions and paid the surcharge step by step.
1.1 million pensioners receive a basic pension
Federal Minister of Labor Hubertus Heil (SPD) says: “The figures now available show that the introduction of the basic pension was correct and important.” Around 1.1 million pensioners would get an average of 86 euros more every month. “We are also honoring the lifetime achievements of many women who have worked for at least 33 years, brought up children or cared for relatives.”
All people who have worked for at least 33 years and earned too little fall into the area of the pension supplement. The income of the spouse and one’s own earnings are also decisive. The President of the German Pension Insurance Association, Gundula Roßbach, said: “As announced, we have checked whether there is an entitlement to the basic pension for new and current pensions.” In addition, a data highway between the pension insurance and the tax authorities was set up in a short time.
Income verification is done annually
“For everyone who meets the requirements for a basic pension, the income is checked via the data highway,” said Roßbach. “It works perfectly.” In the future, the income check will be carried out annually. “But overall, that’s not as time-consuming as the introductory effort.”
