Google’s first foldable smartphone is expected to be announced next month at the annual Google I/O conference. Its presentation is actually expected for May 10 alongside the Pixel 7a, the more affordable smartphone than the Pixel 7. After the announcement, the Pixel Fold would be released in June. Google is thus preparing to officially enter the foldable smartphone market largely dominated by Samsung. The South Korean giant will indeed launch Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 in August. They will also have batteries that are easier to remove to replace them. Google therefore intends to compete directly with Samsung, but will the Pixel Fold manage to overshadow the foldable Galaxy?

The Google Pixel Fold is said to have a 7.6-inch internal screen and 24-hour battery life

CNBC managed to get their hands on internal documents from the Mountain View firm. These documents confirm once again the release of the Pixel Fold for the month of June, but not only. They also reveal how confident Google is in the quality of its foldable smartphone.

In effect, the Pixel Fold which is codenamed Felix internally will have the most durable hinge on a foldable smartphone “. With its screen that opens like a book, it will therefore compete directly with the Galaxy Z Fold 4, then the Z Fold 5 when it becomes available.

The hinge has always been one of the biggest weak points of foldable smartphones from all manufacturers. Google would therefore have planned to launch its foldable model with a sturdy hinge, but we don’t have more information about it or the technology used. When unfolded, the Pixel Fold would have a 7.6-inch screen waterproof. Folded, the foldable smartphone would easily fit in the pocket. A 24-hour battery life is also expected.

As for the price, the Google Pixel Fold looks cheaper than the Galaxy Z Fold 4 at launch. The Pixel Fold would actually be priced around $1,700 while Samsung’s smartphone cost $1,800 when it was released.
