Coming from a family of artists, the 29-year-old actor has oscillated between music, cinema and television for the past fifteen years. With ever-increasing exposure.
A known surname, a familiar-looking face and an increasingly solid career: at 29, Aliocha Schneider adds a line to his filmography with the release of Greek salad, series by Cédric Klapisch available this Friday on Prime Video. The young actor plays one of the two main roles in this sequel to the trilogy The Spanish innthe first part of which was released in cinemas twenty years ago.
This film followed the Barcelona year of Xavier (Romain Duris), a young endearing and somewhat lost student. Acclaimed by critics and decorated with several international awards, the film gave rise to two sequels, Russian dolls et Chinese puzzlein which the character and his acolytes crossed their thirties and then their forties between Paris, London, Saint-Petersburg and New York.
Ten years after the last part, Greek salad changes focus to focus on a new generation. Xavier and several of his friends are still part of the setting, but the plot now focuses on his children, young adults Mia and Tom. This allows Aliocha Schneider, the interpreter of the latter, to establish his place a little more in the landscape of French fiction.
Siblings of artists
Born in Paris on September 21, 1993, Aliocha Schneider grew up in Quebec. He is the fourth in a family of five artists, including actor Niels Schneider (Imaginary lovers, Sibyl, The things we say, the things we do) and Vassili Schneider, seen in The Almond Trees. It is the eldest, Vadim, who sets the tone:
“He was very invested, very literary and he loved music a lot” said Volodya, the youngest, in a group portrait of ‘Number‘ in 2020. “When I saw him, I wanted to choose my instrument. Then my father got us into acting agencies.”
In 2003, the Schneider family was struck by the tragedy of the death of the eldest of the tribe, at only 17 years old. Vadim Schneider is the victim of a car accident while on the set of the Canadian series 15/A. By a “domino effect”, as Volodya recalls, all his cadets embrace an artistic career.
First musical steps
In Alyosha’s case, first loves are musical. Influenced by “Bob Dylan, the Beatles and Elliott Smith”, his models which he lists with Rocknfool, he trained in the guitar from childhood and began to compose in stride. Vadim’s ghost is not far away:
“At the age of 10, I lost my big brother,” he confided to Radio Canada in 2017. “He was singing and that’s why I started singing.”
Son premier EP, Sorry Eyesreleased in 2016, followed by albums Eleven Songs (2017) et Naked (2020). Over the years and projects, the folk imprint of the beginnings ventures towards more synthetic, almost pop grounds: “I wanted to do something more modern”, he confided to ARTV at the time of the release of Naked. “I’m 26 in 2020, and it would be like playing a character too stuck in the 1960s and 1970s.”
Tenebrous blood drinker
His musical aspirations do not prevent him from developing his other passion, comedy. As the literary journal reports Between the lineshe began on stage in Quebec in 2008, at the age of 15, playing the main character in an adaptation of The life aheadGoncourt 1975 signed Romain Gary.
The roles are then linked to the cinema, mainly across the Atlantic. He has appeared in numerous Canadian productions over the past decade, including The Diary of Aurélie Laflamme de Christian Laurence, Ville-Marie by Guy Edoin (where he gives the reply to Monica Bellucci) or even thank you for everything by Louise Archambault.
It is a lot thanks to the series that his face crosses the ocean, with ever greater exposure: in 2020, he embodies a tenebrous blood drinker in the Netflix series Vampires against Oulaya Amamra, César 2017 for the best female hope for Divines. A year later, he lends his features to a secondary character in the series-event Germinalon TF1, from the work of Emile Zola.
The adventure also continues on the big screen: at the end of 2022, he was on the bill of The vortex of life by Olivier Treiner, facing Lou de Laâge, Raphaël Personnaz and Isabelle Carré.
On the private side, Aliocha Schneider observes absolute discretion. However, it is sometimes seen in photos posted on Instagram by his girlfriend, Quebec singer Charlotte Cardin.
On-screen appearances will continue in 2023: After German drama’s March release Musicin which he played the main role, we will see him in the casting of a new Disney+ series, Everything’s good. He will give the reply to the Caesarized actress Virginie Efiracompanion of Niels Schneider.
