Reportedly, developer 343 Industries currently has no plans to develop a story expansion for Halo Infinite. Instead, the studio is said to be working on new games that will be developed with a different engine.

No story DLC, but the way to a new engine

Halo Infinite was released in November 2021. According to Bloomberg there is no new campaign content in sight. One of the reasons for this is the buggy Slipspace engine on which the game runs.

Anonymous sources even claim that the engine significantly slowed down the development of new multiplayer modes like Extraction or Assault. According to Bloomberg, 343 Industries wants to quickly switch to Epic’s Unreal Engine.

For the first time, Halo Studio is set to use the new engine in the upcoming title, codenamed Tatanka.

343 Industries is reportedly working on several prototypes in the Unreal Engine. It remains to be seen whether all schedules can be met after the major restructuring after the many layoffs by Microsoft.

At least we can be sure that 343 will continue to act as a developer for upcoming Halo titles.
