Hi-Fi Rush was one of the biggest surprises in a long time, releasing in conjunction with an Xbox and Bethesda event last month. It received consistently very good ratings and also sold very well, while the developer Tango Gameworks was praised.

Considering the element of surprise in the game’s launch, it is perhaps hard to imagine that it is a project that has been in development for several years. However, the fact is that production was already underway when Xbox Game Studios bought out Bethesda/Zenimax, but it had no impact on the game.

In an interview with Kid geek says game director John Johanas that “[the aquisition] really didn’t have any effect on the development of the game”and continues:

“When we were making the game and the platform wasn’t decided yet. We were just making it on a PC and we didn’t know which other platforms it was going to be on. We also didn’t know what the future consoles were going to be at that point either. Then the acquisition happened, so that made it a bit easier for us because we were able to focus on which platforms it will be released to help us polish the experience.”

Hi-Fi Rush’s enormous success thus suggests that wise decisions were made after the acquisition that most immediately helped production.
