The home appliance market is currently experiencing a drop in prices as the summer season approachesa period usually characterized by high prices for air conditioners and televisions especially. Significant promotions have been offered by various merchants and resellers, with discounts ranging from from 5000 to 10,000 dinars on various home appliances.

An Arabic-language media made the rounds of a series of stores noting the prices of different devices. Prices for home-made refrigerators with a capacity of 600 liters vary between 70,000 and 73,000 dinarswhile imported refrigerators of the same capacity cost 89 000 dinars. Air conditioners with a capacity of 900 btu cost 54 000 dinarsthose with a capacity of 12 000 btu vary from 58,000 to 70,000 dinarsand for a capacity of 18 000 btuThe price is 85 000 dinars.

The prices of the various televisions have also seen a significant drop. Local smart TV brands from 32 inches cost 23 000 dinarswhile those of 43 inches cost 52 000 dinars. Locally made washing machines with a capacity of 10 kg cost between 40,000 and 50,000 dinars.

Consumers can take advantage of this price drop before prices rise again as summer approaches, especially for air conditioners whose prices have increased by 100 % over the past year.

Inflation percentage on the rise according to ONS

The monthly bulletin of the National Statistics Office (ONS) recently published data relating to the evolution of the consumer price index (CPI) last March.

The numbers showed an upward trend in CPI and inflation. Compared to February 2023, the general consumer price index increased by 1.9% nationally in March. Food prices increased by 3.1% over the same period.

With regard to annual inflation, it rose slightly from 9.3% in February to 9.4% last March. The national consumer price index is established by observing prices in a sample of 17 towns and villages representative of the different regions of the country.
